Posted by Daniel S. on Sunday, March 8, 2015, In : major events
This year's 2015 Honolulu Writers, Authors and Poets Gathering (HWAAPG) is scheduled for 31 March from 1 to 5 p.m., in the Parlor Room of the famous Moana Surfrider Hotel ("The Queen of Waikiki") where many famous Pacific Rim writers, authors and poets, like Mark Twain, typically frequented.

This is not a conference; it's a place for writers, authors, and poets (published or unpublished), editors, publishers, agents and public interested in publishing to schmooze together one-on-one. A sing...

INTRODUCING SAVANT EDITOR MOMILANI AWANA

Posted by Daniel S. on Monday, November 17, 2014, In : Welcome
My passion for writing was fueled in no small part by the sheer volume of books I consumed from an early age. In retrospect, I probably consumed those books because I suffered from a dreadful case of then-undiagnosed myopia and found the written word to be my best means of “seeing” the world around me. Despite my literal, and perhaps figurative, shortsightedness, I won a few of statewide writing competitions with stories that tended to highlight my rebellious yet-sympathetic nature—stor...

He's also taking the necessary steps to becoming a freelance direct response copywriter. Until then, he'll also be working as a busser, then hopefully a waiter, at Gyotaku Japanese restaurant in Pear...

BOOK PROMOTION FOR AND WITH AUTHORS

Posted by Daniel S. on Monday, April 8, 2013, In : Publishing
Whenever a prospective author asks me, ''What would your publishing house do to promote my book?'' I have to take a minute, breathe deep, and remember that to many, it really means, ''How would you make people buy my book so I can retire a millionaire and never have to write another?''

AUTHORS AND OTHERS

That isn't to say that all potential or seasoned authors think this way, but a growing number of new; young writers seem to. In the world of publishing, there are many writers, and likewise wh...

PUTTING ON THE SPELL

Posted by Daniel S. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, In : major events
These days, in today's world of publishing, "getting published" and having one's book appear on a wide variety of established sales channels has gotten much easier, while garnering author name and book title recognition so interested readers can locate an author's work has gotten much harder. While publishers struggle with the vastly increased approaches to publication including self-, vanity, POD (print on demand), electronic and traditional publishing models, distributors for ways to identi...
